The Aukey DR-01 is a dash cam from a company named Aukey, which may be more familiar for its USB hubs and the audio gear. The dash cam market is becoming more crowded, so Aukey’s DR-01 enters with a very keen price, in a hope to attract the buyers at the budget end of the market rather than the gadget-hungry early adopters. The DR-01 offers only Full HD video, and now the more expensive alternatives are now turning to the higher resolutions. Aukey also holds a Sony Exmor IMX323 CMOS sensor. It is a 2.19-megapixel chip, with a sizeable 1/2.9-inch diagonal, and would offer you a decent performance stills in low light, as well as on the day.
Aside from Full HD resolution video with 1920 x 1080 at 30 frames per second, there is a 720p at 60 and 30 frames per second, WVGA (848 x 480) and VGA (640 x 480). As is the case with virtually all dash cams, microSD is used for storage. Note that there are no media included in the box, and so you will need to supply your own, although the Aukey DR-01 is hardly expensive these days. An 8GB card will be enough for about 80 minutes of footage at the Full HD resolution with approximately 13Mbps of data rate. Once the media is full, the recording will loop, and new ones will overwrite the oldest files. Navigating the menu will utilize the 2-inch LCD screen and four buttons beneath it.
